Snoop Dogg hosts VMAs as ceremony returns to Los Angeles after eight years

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards returned to Los Angeles on Sunday, 27 September, with Snoop Dogg hosting at the Peacock Theater. The ceremony had been held on the East Coast since 2018, and Snoop said he helped bring it back to his city, making the West Coast setting a defining feature of the night.
Snoop joked that he had agreed to host only after learning the show would be in Los Angeles, and promised a major party and a surprise for the winners. Madonna opened the show, while Taylor Swift was among the people he welcomed from the stage. Snoop, 54, has a long history with the VMAs: he first performed “Murder Was the Case” at the 1993 ceremony.
