Siobhán Redmond gives a compelling performance as Winnie in Samuel Beckett’s *Happy Days* at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. The production’s blazing heat and scorched landscape evoke the climate crisis, giving fresh force to the play’s portrait of a woman who keeps despair at bay with cheerful resolve.

Emma Bailey’s set is a dune of white sand, intensified by Colin Grenfell’s lighting, while Forbes Masson plays Willie largely hidden in a hole. Redmond’s vocal range and composed performance convey Winnie’s dependence on being seen and heard, even as she appears uneasy with Willie’s physical presence. Roxana Silbert’s production runs at the theatre until 10 October.
