An 81-year-old man with dementia was showered against his will at Castlehill Care Home in Inverness, despite staff knowing that he had a lifelong fear of showers. His daughter, Su Christie, secretly filmed the incident after becoming concerned about his care; the footage showed him distressed and staff threatening to involve the police.

A Scottish Social Services Council misconduct panel found that carer Amina Sani threatened the man, removed his duvet without warning and failed to respect his dignity. It ruled her conduct incompatible with her role and struck her off the register, while also finding that the care home had failed her through institutional problems and inadequate support. Sani’s representative said she had not been properly trained for the role.
