Newcastle Red Bulls have agreed to delay the arrival of All Blacks winger Fehi Fineanganofo by one year, allowing the 24-year-old to remain with Wellington's Hurricanes to pursue selection for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The move resolves months of uncertainty surrounding his future, as moving overseas this year would have ruled him out of contention for the tournament under New Zealand selection rules. Newcastle's decision demonstrates their commitment to supporting player ambitions, whilst securing a winger who will bring valuable international experience.

Fineanganofo, who made his All Blacks debut against France in July, had an exceptional Super Rugby season, scoring 17 tries in 14 matches and setting a single-campaign record for the title-winning Hurricanes. His contract with Newcastle remains for two years but now covers the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons rather than commencing this campaign. In his absence, Newcastle have recruited Werner Kok and retained 35-year-old Christian Wade as their wing options for the current season, though the club has indicated it may pursue additional outside backs if suitable candidates emerge.
