Their testimonies emphasise the reality of hell's existence and the extreme suffering they claim to have endured.

The three accounts differ in their circumstances and duration. Steven Kang's 1998 experience followed a drug overdose at a college party involving heroin, cocaine, and PCP, which led to a 10-hour episode documented in his book "8 Hours in Hell." Bill Wiese claims to have experienced a 23-minute out-of-body vision of hell on 23 November 1998, described in his book "23 Minutes in Hell," during which he said Jesus rescued him from torment. Jim Woodford, a former Canadian pilot, alleges an 11-hour hell experience in April 2014 after accidentally overdosing on pain medication whilst dealing with Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronicled in "Heaven, an Unexpected Journey." All three men emphasised that their experiences were so traumatic they would prefer any earthly suffering to returning there.
