Police conducted a major operation near Geraldton Airport in Western Australia's Midwest on Wednesday morning following reports of a serious incident in Moonyoonooka, a rural locality approximately 4km from the airport. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a gunshot wound around 2am, and authorities urged members of the public to avoid the area whilst responding to the incident. The police confirmed the incident involved people known to each other.

Significant police resources, including tactical response vehicles, were deployed to the region, with officers also attending Utakarra, a suburb located 8km west of Moonyoonooka. Witnesses reported seeing convoys of police tactical response vehicles heading northward towards the affected area. Beyond confirming the nature of the injuries and that those involved were acquainted, police released limited additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident at the time of reporting.
