HBO Max has announced that the 2025 spy thriller *The Amateur* will join its streaming catalogue on 17 October, after leaving Prime Video. The move follows strong streaming interest in the film and gives HBO Max a chance to attract viewers drawn to Jon Bernthal’s growing profile.

The film stars Rami Malek as a CIA cryptographer seeking revenge for his wife’s murder; Bernthal plays a CIA operative known as The Bear, alongside Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan and Caitríona Balfe. Directed by James Hawes, it earned about $96 million at the box office on a reported $60 million production budget, and has an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite a weaker critical reception.
