Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has warned that Republicans face an unprecedented electoral defeat in the upcoming midterm elections, which she described as a potential "bloodbath." Coulter, once an ally of Donald Trump, attributes the anticipated loss primarily to Trump's handling of the war in Iran, which she argues has weakened the Republican position in polling across key races. Her warning represents the latest in a series of concerns from Republican insiders who are privately bracing for a significant Democratic wave.

Trump's approval ratings have reached record lows, with only 29 per cent of Americans approving of his handling of foreign affairs whilst 71 per cent disapprove. The political landscape mirrors conditions from the 2006 midterms under President George W. Bush, which saw similar factors—low approval ratings, an unpopular war, and elevated gas prices—culminate in Republicans losing 31 House seats and six Senate seats. Currently, Republicans hold 53 Senate seats to Democrats' 47, whilst in the House Republicans possess a narrow 219–214 advantage; however, Democrats are projected to gain approximately 230 seats, exceeding the 218 threshold required for a majority.
