Buckingham Palace staff received training on supporting intoxicated colleagues
Buckingham Palace staff attended an alcohol awareness course run by consultants from Alcohol Change UK. The sessions covered mindful drinking, “grey area drinking” and how to respond to colleagues who are intoxicated, reflecting concerns about health, inclusion and workplace safeguarding.
The charity’s chief executive, Richard Piper, said the organisation had worked with the royal household and other workplaces on alcohol policies. He said more than 20 per cent of people do not drink, compared with about 6 per cent who are vegetarian. The course was reportedly held several years ago as part of staff wellbeing initiatives; in 2024, a palace maid was arrested after a staff Christmas party at an All Bar One ended in a fight.
