Stevie Nicks says she began writing “Stand Back” on her wedding day in 1983, after hearing Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” on the drive to Santa Barbara. The story links a brief personal moment with the creation of one of her best-known solo hits, shaped by Prince’s music.

Nicks married Kim Anderson on 29 January, but the marriage ended three months later. Prince later played synthesiser on “Stand Back” after Nicks contacted him about the song; she said she regretted never performing it live with him before his death in 2016. Released as the lead single from her second solo album, *The Wild Heart*, it remains her favourite song to perform onstage.
