Guillermo del Toro Officially Breaks Silence on Cancelled ‘Bioshock’ Adaptation
Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he discussed adapting the video game BioShock into a film, ending rumours that he had been involved in an earlier attempt. He said the conversations went badly and that the differences between video game and film storytelling made him a poor fit for the project.
BioShock is set in Rapture, an underwater city that has fallen into a dystopian nightmare. A separate live-action adaptation announced by Netflix in 2022 remains in development, with Francis Lawrence directing and Michael Green writing; it has no release date, and Lawrence’s other commitments have contributed to the delay.
