Brit Awards boosted Manchester economy by £5m, study finds
The 2026 Brit Awards brought significant economic benefits to Manchester after relocating from London for the first time in its nearly 50-year history. Research by Amion Consulting found the event generated £5 million in net additional expenditure for the city and surrounding area, whilst creating more than 3,000 temporary jobs. The move was heralded by local leaders as a "massive moment" for Greater Manchester, with the 2027 ceremony also confirmed for the city.
The awards ceremony, hosted by Jack Whitehall on 28 February at the Co-op Live Arena, featured performances from major artists including Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, Raye and Mark Ronson. The £5 million economic impact comprised £3.6 million from visitor spending and £1.4 million from organiser and partner expenditure. The study found 92% of attendees rated the experience as excellent or good, with the social impact—including cultural participation and digital engagement—estimated at £11.2 million when accounting for Manchester's enhanced profile as an events destination.
