Audible plans AI-driven conversations with Renfield in Dracula beta
Audible is introducing Interactive Stories, an AI feature that lets listeners speak in their own words to characters who respond in real time. Its first version will accompany a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s *Dracula*, with the listener interacting with Renfield, Dracula’s servant; the feature is planned as a beta later this autumn.
The experience will give listeners a role, goal and stakes, though Audible has not announced a launch date. A second Interactive Story, made with author Benjamin Percy for the forthcoming *Exoplanet* audio novel, is due on 5 November. Audible also announced Character Guide, which shows speakers and spoiler-free character cards, and Visual Explorer, which will add images or context during playback.

Audible is a subscription service that streams audiobooks and audio stories to listeners. It has become popular with people who want to experience literature and fiction whilst commuting, exercising or doing other activities.
Audible has created what it calls Interactive Stories, using artificial intelligence to enable listeners to have conversations with characters. Rather than listening passively, users speak directly to a character who responds in real time, adapting to each listener's words.
This represents a new approach to storytelling that merges traditional audio narrative with interactive elements, creating a unique journey for each listener based on their own words and choices. It potentially transforms audience engagement with audio fiction, moving beyond passive listening to active participation.
