Radar scans suggest man-made structure beneath Turkey’s boat-shaped hill

Daily Mail ·

Researchers scanning a boat-shaped hill in eastern Turkey have announced that new radar images suggest a large man-made structure lies beneath the surface, not merely natural rock formations. The discovery is significant because it challenges assumptions about the Durupınar Formation and could support claims that this is the site of Noah's Ark from biblical texts.

Radar scans conducted by Dr Khosrow Bakhtar, an engineer who developed detection systems for US defence agencies, detected organised internal features including corridors, chambers and hallway-like spaces within the 515-foot mound. Core drilling samples from depths of 12 to 15 feet have been sent to outside laboratories for analysis, with the full radar survey expected to conclude by November 2026 and further testing planned for animal DNA inside the structure.

The Durupınar Formation is a boat-shaped geological feature in eastern Turkey near the Armenian border. For several decades, some researchers and biblical scholars have proposed that this could be the location of Noah's Ark, as described in ancient religious texts, though this theory remains controversial and unproven amongst mainstream archaeologists and geologists.

Researchers have employed ground-penetrating radar, a technology capable of imaging beneath the Earth's surface, to investigate what lies inside the mound. This non-invasive approach allows scientists to search for evidence of structures or organised features without the extensive excavation that would normally be required.

If the site contains man-made structures rather than merely natural rock formations, it could provide new insights into the Durupınar Formation's history and origins. Such findings would be particularly significant given the decades of speculation about the site's possible connection to biblical narratives, though any conclusions would need independent verification from the wider scientific community.
