Williams free-kick seals Wales’ comeback victory over 10-man Norway

The Guardian ·

Wales came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in Cardiff, securing their first win of the year in the Nations League. Neco Williams scored the decisive goal after Norway were reduced to ten men early in the second half, giving Craig Bellamy’s side a boost against opponents the manager had called one of the world’s best teams.

Oscar Bobb put Norway ahead after Martin Ødegaard created the chance, but Daniel James equalised before half-time following Liam Cullen’s interception and Sorba Thomas’s cross. Seventeen seconds after the restart, Torbjørn Heggem was sent off for fouling James as he ran towards goal; Williams then scored from the resulting free-kick. Norway’s Erling Haaland had little influence for much of the match, with only 11 first-half touches.
