Heavensouls, the project of 20-year-old musician Chidi Obialo, has released a six-track album that fuses frantic rhythms, noisy textures and sharply shifting styles. Cantu of the Sower pairs that intensity with playful, warm sounds and snippets of everyday conversation, giving the music a sense of wonder and human connection.
Obialo was raised in Nigeria and moved to the United States at seven; he began releasing eclectic, collage-like music as a teenager. The album is due out on 7 October through NTS Recordings, and follows a prolific run that includes 15 releases.
