‘Lanterns’ Co-Creator Officially Confirms Season 2 Is in Early Development [Exclusive]

Collider ·

Lanterns Season 1, the True Detective-inspired HBO series about Green Lantern characters John Stewart and Hal Jordan, has concluded with rave reviews from critics and audiences. Co-creator Damon Lindelof has officially confirmed that Season 2 is in early development, though he will not return as a writer for the next instalment. This development suggests strong confidence in the show's future despite the absence of an official renewal announcement.

Whilst HBO has not yet formally renewed the series, a preliminary writers' room has begun work on ideating Season 2. Lindelof stated he knows nothing of the creative direction for the second season, preferring not to hamstring the new writers. Season 1 ended with Hal Jordan's definitive death; however, Lindelof invoked the comics' precedent of multiple Hal resurrections and cryptically stated "where there's a will, there's a way" about continuing his story. The character of John Stewart will appear in the upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, releasing July 2027.

  • Lanterns Season 2 officially in early development despite no HBO renewal yet.
  • Original co-creator Damon Lindelof won't return, handing off to new writers.
  • Hal Jordan dies definitively, but source comics allow for resurrection possibilities.
