The World’s Most Beloved Detective Series Officially Announces New Release

Collider ·

Murdoch Mysteries, the long-running Canadian period detective drama, is getting a comic book spin-off, announced at its New York Comic Con panel. The move takes the series back to print after it began as novels by Maureen Jennings, and could let its Victorian-era detective face larger adventures than the television budget allows.

Writer Ryan North, a Toronto-based comics writer, will lead the project. The first image shows detective William Murdoch confronting a criminal on a speeding biplane over the Canadian wilderness; the publisher, other creators and release date have not yet been announced. The television series premiered in 2008 and has released 330 episodes, with its 20th season now under way.
