How a stolen 1957 wedding album found its way home

feeds.bbci.co.uk ·

A wedding album from 1957, found behind a café in Wakefield, has been returned to the family it belonged to after a local history enthusiast traced the couple pictured. Its recovery reunited the album with Michael Dawson, whose parents’ wedding photographs it contains, and revealed that the keepsake had been stolen from a storage unit.

The album was found in August by the owners of Eva’s Kitchen, who kept it safe and appealed for help through a local newspaper. Anne-Marie Fawcett used a faint list of names, historical records and photo enhancement to identify Barbara Parr and Maxwell Dawson, who married at Wadsley Parish Church in Sheffield on 24 June 1957. Electoral records linked the couple to Walton Lane in Wakefield, helping Fawcett connect with their son Michael.
