Retired police sergeant kills officer wife and daughter before turning gun on himself at upscale Bay Area home
Three members of a prominent San Francisco police family were found dead on Sunday evening in what investigators say was a murder-suicide at their Mill Valley home. Kevin Mannix, a retired SFPD sergeant, fatally shot his estranged wife Ann, a former deputy chief, and their 24-year-old daughter Katie before killing himself. The tragedy has deeply affected the police community, with the Officers Association saying the incident has "left our entire SFPD family reeling."
Kevin had served 27 years at SFPD before retiring in 2018, whilst Ann rose to become the department's first woman to lead the SWAT team and held leadership roles in both Field Operations and Special Operations Bureaux. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 5pm at the family's $2 million home in the Strawberry neighbourhood. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday as investigators continue processing the scene and working to determine what led to the tragedy.
