Gift cards are prepaid credit that can be spent at a particular shop or service. They can be given as presents or used by the buyer, and a discount means paying less than the card’s face value.

Google Play is Google’s online store for apps, games and digital content, and its account system is used to access some offers there. The retailers named include Barnes & Noble, a bookseller, REI, an outdoor equipment retailer, and GameStop, which sells video games and consoles.

The appeal of discounted cards is that they can be used across a retailer’s eligible products, rather than on one specific item. The promotion also covers subscriptions and in-game purchases, which are digital services or content bought within apps and games.
