Narnia is a fantasy world created by British author C.S. Lewis in a series of novels. The Magician’s Nephew is the first story in the books’ fictional chronology: it follows children Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer from postwar London into other worlds, where they encounter the powerful empress Jadis and the lion Aslan.
Greta Gerwig, whose previous film was Barbie, is directing the adaptation. The story’s mix of magic, parallel worlds and a 1950s setting provides the background to its psychedelic visual style, which draws inspiration from musician David Bowie’s work in the 1960s.
