The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is seeing a renewed rise in Steam players ahead of its tenth anniversary. The figures suggest the single-player role-playing game continues to attract people years after release, helped by a world that supports varied play styles and repeat adventures.

Steam Charts recorded a 24-hour peak of 36,575 concurrent players last week and an average of about 24,146 over the preceding 30 days. September 2026 averaged about 23,196 players, up roughly 35% from 17,237 in September 2025; the recent monthly average was also 4.09% higher than September’s. These figures cover the Special Edition on Steam, not other editions or console players; its Steam listing showed 91% positive reviews over the preceding 30 days.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a fantasy role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios, set in a region of a fictional world called Tamriel. Players create a character, explore towns and wilderness, and take on quests involving dragons and rival groups.

The Special Edition is a later release of the game for modern platforms, including Steam, the digital games shop run by Valve. Its open-ended world lets players follow different quests and develop their characters in different ways, which can make repeat play appealing.

Skyrim is part of a long-running series, and its continued audience shows how older games can remain popular alongside newer releases. Steam player figures count people playing that edition on Steam at a given time; they do not include console players or other editions.
