Marvel Officially Loses Another Original Avenger for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Jeremy Renner has said he will not appear as Hawkeye in Marvel’s upcoming film *Avengers: Doomsday*. His absence further reduces the number of original Avengers expected to return for the multiverse team-up against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
Renner, who has played Hawkeye since 2012, said at a Q&A that Marvel did not call him and joked that the Avengers would probably lose without him. Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen and Hugh Jackman have also confirmed they will not appear; Johansson cited her character’s death, while Olsen said a scheduling clash prevented her involvement. The film is due in cinemas on 18 December 2026.

The Avengers are a team of superheroes in Marvel films, brought together to face threats too large for any one hero. Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner since 2012, is an archer and one of the team’s original members.
Avengers: Doomsday is planned as a new team-up involving Doctor Doom, a powerful Marvel villain played by Robert Downey Jr. Several familiar actors from earlier Avengers films have said they will not be in it, so the returning cast may differ from the original line-up. The film is due in cinemas on 18 December 2026.
