Getafe make offer to sign free agent Sancho

BBC Sport ·

Getafe have made a formal offer to sign Jadon Sancho, who is available on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expired this summer. The move would take the former England winger to Spain, where he is reportedly keen to play, although an agreement is described as complicated.

Sancho, 26, joined United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021 and spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances. He also had loan spells at Dortmund and Chelsea; Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to return him to United after 41 appearances. Getafe are 14th in La Liga and are playing in the Europa Conference League this season.

Jadon Sancho is an English winger who came through Manchester City’s youth system before making his name at Borussia Dortmund in Germany. Manchester United signed him from Dortmund in 2021, and he has since had loan spells at Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Getafe are a Spanish football club based near Madrid, competing in La Liga, the country’s top division. They are also playing in the Europa Conference League, a European competition for clubs that do not qualify for the Champions League or Europa League.

A free transfer means a club does not pay a fee to another club for the player, though it still has to agree personal terms with him. Sancho’s move abroad would add to his experience in Germany and England, while giving Getafe another option in attack.
