McKibbin one off lead with McIlroy in contention
Niklas Norgaard leads the weather-disrupted opening round of the DP World India Championship, with Tom McKibbin one shot behind and Rory McIlroy four shots off the lead. The positions leave both Northern Irish players in contention, although delays mean many competitors have yet to complete their first rounds.
Norgaard carded a six-under-par 66, including an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys. McKibbin, Eugenio Chacarra and Thomas Detry finished on five under; McKibbin made six birdies and one bogey. McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood were on two under after McIlroy recorded four birdies and two bogeys. Play stopped for five hours because of lightning, and the 23-year-old McKibbin has had top-six finishes at the British Masters and Irish Open this season.
- Norgaard leads on six under after a 66.

The DP World India Championship is a professional golf tournament on the DP World Tour, a global men’s golf circuit. A round is usually 18 holes, and a player’s score is measured against par: fewer strokes than par is under par, while a lower score is better.
Niklas Norgaard, Tom McKibbin and Rory McIlroy are among the players in the field. McKibbin and McIlroy are both from Northern Ireland, but they are at different stages of their careers: McIlroy is an established major champion, while McKibbin is a younger player building his record on tour.
Golf tournaments often span several days, with players completing a round each day. Weather delays can leave some players with holes still to play, so early standings may change as the rounds are completed.
