Jennie to Headline Soundtrack for Netflix’s Upcoming Animated Film ‘Steps’ (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter ·

Jennie of Blackpink will headline the soundtrack for Netflix’s upcoming animated film *Steps*, singing a new song called “Someone to Hold”. The announcement came with the film’s trailer, which includes a preview of the track, and the soundtrack’s dance-focused mix of styles reflects the film’s reworking of Cinderella’s story.

The album will feature four original songs, all written and produced by Justin Tranter, alongside a score by Kris Bowers. Amanda Seyfried, Rose Gray and Emei also contribute vocals: their songs are described respectively as a musical-theatre number, an electro dance-pop villain song and an underdog anthem. The film and soundtrack are due for release on 20 November.

Cinderella is a traditional fairy tale about a young woman whose life changes after she attends a royal ball. Its familiar elements, including a ball and a lost shoe, have been retold in books, theatre and films, often with changes to the characters and plot.

Steps is Netflix’s animated take on the story, told through music as well as animation. Its soundtrack combines four new songs written and produced by Justin Tranter with a film score by Kris Bowers, while vocalists including Jennie, Amanda Seyfried, Rose Gray and Emei bring different musical styles to the characters and story.
