True crime films tell stories based on real events. Clean Hands centres on Brooke Simmers and her father, Kevin, and their experience of Brooke’s addiction.

Kevin later established Brooke’s House, a recovery home for women in Hagerstown, Maryland, in Brooke’s honour. The organisation supports women in recovery and also helped create film-industry work opportunities for women involved in the production.

The film’s connection to Brooke’s House matters because the organisation is part of both the story’s background and the production. A share of the film’s profits is set to support its work.
