A Christmas Carol is a 19th-century story by Charles Dickens about Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser who is challenged to change his ways. Its themes of generosity and concern for others have inspired many retellings, including modern comedies.

John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones, stars as Aubrey Flint, a loner who dislikes Christmas. The British film also features Celia Imrie, Richard E. Grant and Adjoa Andoh, among others, and is directed by Jack Spring.

The story brings Aubrey into the life of a retirement home facing closure, where he becomes involved in putting on a festive play. This connects Dickens’s themes to questions of community, ageing and how people can support one another.
