Greta Gerwig On Securing Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” For ‘Narnia’ Trailer: “They Too Love C.S. Lewis”

Greta Gerwig secured permission from Led Zeppelin to use “Stairway to Heaven” in the trailer for her film Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Led Zeppelin are a British rock band whose members include singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page. Their 1971 song “Stairway to Heaven” is one of their best-known recordings, and its use in films has been rare.

C.S. Lewis was a British author best known for The Chronicles of Narnia, a series of fantasy books set partly in a magical world. The Magician’s Nephew, one of the books, follows Digory and Polly as they discover routes to other worlds and encounter a dangerous queen.

Greta Gerwig is directing a film adaptation of the story. The reported agreement to use the song brings together a well-known piece of rock music and a fantasy story whose themes Gerwig says she sees in the song.
