Slash reveals Guns N’ Roses opted against the Sphere: “Not something I’m aspiring to”
Slash says Guns N’ Roses declined a proposed Las Vegas Sphere engagement, choosing a US tour instead. He is interested in seeing Metallica perform there, but feels the venue’s emphasis on visuals and theatrical production may not suit the band’s usual live setup.
The Sphere opened in 2023 and has hosted acts including U2, Phish, the Eagles and Metallica. Its interior screen spans 160,000 square feet, and Slash said the venue’s restrictions on placing amplifiers contributed to his reservations. He said a Sphere show could happen later, while Guns N’ Roses may take 2027 off touring to regroup and work on new music.
- Guns N’ Roses chose a US tour over a Sphere engagement.
- Slash says the venue’s production focus may not suit the band.
- He plans to watch Metallica’s Sphere residency.
Both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
A Sphere residency could let Guns N’ Roses reach audiences with a distinctive, immersive show and offer fans a rare way to experience the band’s music. Its scale and visual technology might complement the band’s theatrical songs, while a fixed venue could provide a different kind of performance from touring.
The case against
The band’s live sound and identity may depend on a conventional stage setup, including the placement of Slash’s amplifiers, which the venue restricts. If the Sphere’s visuals and production demands would overshadow that approach, choosing a US tour could better serve the band’s priorities and give fans the more familiar concert experience they want.
