One of the Most Intriguing RPGs of 2027 Plays With Time Brilliantly

Polygon ·

Marvelous’ upcoming role-playing game *Eternal Anima* combines familiar Japanese RPG elements with battles that use a timeline to make turn-based combat more strategic. In a hands-on preview, the writer found its time-based mechanics compelling and said the game had become their most anticipated RPG of 2027.

The story follows Wade, a soldier in the fantasy world of Urvis Ael who can read memories in objects and glimpse future events. Players travel into the past to alter the future, while in combat they can use attacks to delay enemy moves or push them off the timeline, removing their turn. The game features a voiced supporting cast and is due out on 4 March 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
