Yang Li-kuo’s ‘The Dull-Ice Flower’ Set for U.S.-U.K. Release as London-Based Distributor Radiance Films Picks Up Eight Taiwanese Classics
Radiance Films has acquired eight Taiwanese classics from the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute for releases in 2027. The deal will bring restored films by directors including Hou Hsiao-hsien and Tsai Ming-liang to new audiences, many of whom may not know their early work.
The titles span 1982 to 1997 and include three films each by Hou and Tsai, as well as the anthology “In Our Time”, Chang Yi’s “Kuei-Mei, a Woman” and Yang Li-kuo’s “The Dull-Ice Flower”. That last film is set for release in both the UK and US; the other seven are UK-only. Radiance plans theatrical screenings before home entertainment releases, while TFAI says it has restored 110 films since 2013 and now completes about a dozen restorations each year.
