Francis Lawrence, Paramount Team for ‘Red Rising’ Movie Adaptation (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter ·

Paramount has acquired the film rights to Pierce Brown’s best-selling science-fiction series *Red Rising*, with Francis Lawrence set to direct an adaptation of the first novel. The project matters as another major screen adaptation of an established literary property, pairing a director experienced with dystopian stories with a series that has built a large readership.

The story is set on a future Mars divided into colour-coded classes, where Darrow, a miner from the lowest class, infiltrates the ruling Golds to challenge their system. Justin Rhodes will write the screenplay; Lawrence, Cameron MacConomy and Francesco Goedhuis will produce, while Brown will executive produce. Six books have been published, a seventh is planned, and Brown said in 2024 that the saga had sold more than six million copies.
