‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Hayley Atwell Reveals Marvel Filmed Multiple Storylines That Were Cut
Hayley Atwell says Marvel filmed several versions of storylines for Avengers: Doomsday, with some developed and others dropped as the filmmakers worked out what best suited the characters. Her comments offer a rare glimpse of the film’s development, while its plot remains largely secret ahead of its planned December release.
Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter, described the film as ambitious in scale and said the choices also depended on the characters’ roles in this part of the story. Doomsday is expected to bring heroes from different Marvel eras and universes together against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Disney+ has also named 15 films and series as recommended viewing before the film opens on 18 December 2026.

The Avengers films bring together heroes from across Marvel’s films, while the wider Marvel story also includes characters and events from separate series and universes. Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, is a veteran character from that story, and Robert Downey Jr is set to play the villain Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday is planned as a large-scale team-up, with heroes from different Marvel eras facing a shared threat. Its place in the connected Marvel stories matters because viewers may recognise characters and events from earlier films and series.
