Reform councillor resigns after being filmed making racist remarks

The Independent ·

Reform councillor Alan Feeney resigned from all his posts on Solihull and Birmingham councils after an undercover ITV investigation recorded him making racist remarks about Asian people. The comments, including calling Asian homeowners “parasites”, have drawn condemnation from Solihull Council and the Ministry of Justice, which suspended him from his prison service job.

Feeney had previously said he was leaving Reform UK but would remain an independent councillor; he later said he took full responsibility and that his remarks were unacceptable. He was also filmed saying that no more than 1 per cent of the UK population should be non-white. The investigation covered Reform candidates and councillors during local elections and by-elections in 2025 and 2026; another councillor featured, Chris Whelan, also resigned from the party.

  • Alan Feeney resigned from both councils after racist remarks were filmed.
  • The Ministry of Justice suspended him from his prison service job.
  • Reform says it has begun investigations into members’ conduct.
