New Street Fighter Movie Ends on the Strangest Song Choice Possible
The new *Street Fighter* film ends with The Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men”, an unexpected choice that director Kitao Sakurai says was meant to fit the film’s deliberately unpredictable tone. He said the song also worked because the moment between Ken and Ryu felt sincere, making the odd finale emotionally effective.
The track was chosen late in editing, after the cast sang it as a joke while the filmmakers were searching for music for a post-climax scene. The film’s soundtrack draws mostly on 1990s songs, including tracks by Tupac, Soundgarden and 4 Non Blondes, but also uses 50 Cent’s “Many Men” during a fight featuring the rapper as Balrog. The film is now showing in cinemas.
