‘Trust Me, I’m a Doctor’ Review: Kal Penn and Abbie Cornish Star in a Minor Sidebar to the Anna Nicole Smith Story
“Trust Me, I’m a Doctor” follows Sandeep Kapoor, the physician who treated Anna Nicole Smith and became a suspect after her 2007 prescription drug overdose. The review argues that the film’s cheeky tone weakens its attempt at an empathetic portrait, and that Kapoor’s relatively minor role in Smith’s life does not sustain a feature-length story.
Kal Penn plays Kapoor, who becomes part of Smith’s inner circle while treating her under a pseudonym. After Smith’s death, the film focuses on his efforts to protect medical records, manage media scrutiny and fight criminal conspiracy charges alongside her lawyer and psychiatrist; the review finds Penn strongest in the closing scenes, but says they do little to lift the earlier film.
- Kal Penn plays Anna Nicole Smith’s doctor, Sandeep Kapoor.
- The film centres on his legal and media ordeal after her death.
- The review says its tone and focus weaken the story.
