True Detective’s fifth season formalizes its lead duo—and they might just save the series

Antonio Banderas has been confirmed as Nicolas Cage’s co-star in the fifth season of *True Detective*, pairing the two actors as the show moves to Jamaica Bay, New York. The casting gives the crime anthology a new lead duo after its fourth season, *Night Country*, and may help renew interest in a series whose seasons have received mixed responses.

Banderas will play Rai García, while Cage’s character is Henry Logan; further plot details have not been reported. The season will again be written and directed by Issa López, who also led *Night Country*, and filming is due to begin next year.
