Tim Burton’s 77-Minute Stop-Motion Masterpiece Is Officially Back on Streaming

Polygon ·

Tim Burton and Mike Johnson’s 2005 stop-motion film *Corpse Bride* is available to stream on HBO Max. Its return offers viewers a chance to revisit a gothic fairy tale that the article describes as one of Laika’s strongest animated-film rivals, and highlights Burton’s first stop-motion directing credit.

The film follows Victor, who mistakenly places his wedding ring on the finger of Emily, an undead bride, and is taken to the land of the dead. Its premise draws on Howard Schwartz’s Jewish folktale “The Finger”, but the adaptation gives Emily a more peaceful ending to suit a family audience. Burton oversaw storyboards and key creative decisions while co-director Mike Johnson led much of the day-to-day production.
