Rangers ‘pop balloon’ as Neil gift wastes chance to go top

BBC Sport ·

Rangers’ seven-match winning run ended in a 2-2 draw with Dundee, as a late mistake denied them the chance to return to the top of the Scottish Premiership. Manager Derek McInnes said Dan Neil’s misplaced backpass felt like “a balloon popping” after Rangers had taken the lead, leaving Celtic able to move four points clear if they beat Hearts.

Dundee took the lead through Bradley Fink before Badredine Bouanani equalised just before half-time. Nicolas Raskin put Rangers ahead with a long-range strike, but Callum Jones capitalised on Neil’s backpass to earn Dundee a point. Rangers have scored 13 league goals from expected goals of almost 20 this season, and McInnes said they need to make more of their chances and sustain their strong spells for longer.
