Runner stabilised after Brisbane dog mauling; owner arrested over unrelated matter

Daily Mail ·

A 37-year-old runner was allegedly mauled by two dogs near Seventh Brigade Park in Chermside, Brisbane, on Friday evening, suffering life-threatening injuries. The dogs’ owner, Layla Evans, was arrested shortly after speaking publicly about the search for her pets, but police said her arrest concerned an unrelated matter.

The runner was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and later stabilised. The dogs were found separately and placed in Brisbane City Council’s custody; the council said they were registered to one address and had not previously been declared dangerous. Evans said they escaped from a tent while she was out, and police said officers fired their service weapons after attempts to subdue the dogs failed and they faced a serious safety risk. Evans had not been charged in connection with the mauling, according to Nine.
