The “devastating” 1970 album Mick Fleetwood couldn’t help but love: “So catastrophic”
Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood has recalled how Peter Green’s departure in 1970 left the band in a state of shock, describing it as “devastating” and “so catastrophic”. He still looks back fondly on *Kiln House*, the first album the group made without Green, seeing it as a step forward during an uncertain period.
Fleetwood said Danny Kirwan felt pressured and Jeremy Spencer had not yet established himself as a songwriter, so the band moved towards Spencer’s rock’n’roll style. The album included early, uncredited contributions from Christine McVie and, despite some signs of the group finding its feet, hinted at the direction Fleetwood Mac would later take. Green had led the band and played on *Then Play On* before leaving.
