Police investigate grandmother’s death after remains found in remote cattle dip

Daily Mail ·

Yvonne Whear, a 73-year-old grandmother who disappeared in February, was found dead in a disused cattle dip near Terragon in northern New South Wales. Police have opened a homicide investigation, and the discovery has unsettled residents who fear the person responsible may know the remote area well.

Whear was last seen driving in Murwillumbah on 19 February, and her empty SUV was found submerged in the Rous River on 12 September, about seven kilometres from where she was last seen. Her remains were discovered on 5 October, around 30 kilometres from her home, at the end of an overgrown fire trail; detectives are seeking information from anyone who visited the site after she vanished. Her family says she spoke to them almost daily and cared deeply for her animals, which they are now seeking homes for.
