Fuel leak spreads more than two miles along River Taff
A kerosene leak has polluted almost 2.5 miles (4km) of the River Taff in south Wales, prompting advice for nearby residents to keep windows and doors shut and avoid contact with the water. The incident matters because residents report strong fumes and visible fuel on the river, while concerns have been raised about damage to wildlife and the time needed for recovery.
Natural Resources Wales said the fuel was entering through an underground surface-water drainage system and that the amount being discharged had fallen significantly. Residents were told that up to 25,000 litres may have entered the river; absorbent materials and collection equipment have been deployed, and water samples are being tested. Public Health Wales advises anyone who feels unwell to call NHS 111.
