Sydney court deems businessman unfit for trial in cocaine case

Daily Mail ·

A Sydney court has found businessman Marios Alexandridis unfit to stand trial on an allegation of supplying a commercial quantity of cocaine, potentially delaying the case for up to 12 months. He was the alleged target of a police operation that included a dawn search of a Bellevue Hill mansion, but the homeowners have not been accused of wrongdoing.

Police allege 794.6 grams of cocaine were found at an Elizabeth Bay café on the day of raids by NSW Police. Alexandridis, 48, has previously been described by his barrister as having schizophrenia; medical assessments for the defence and prosecution differed in their findings. Court records say he may become fit for trial within a year, though there is no guarantee, leaving the allegations unlikely to be tested in a conventional trial soon.
