Chacarra wins in India to take Race to Dubai lead

BBC Sport ·

Eugenio Chacarra won the DP World India Championship by two strokes, taking the lead in the Race to Dubai standings with three events left before the season’s winner is decided. The 26-year-old Spaniard’s third victory of the season puts him in contention to join Jon Rahm and Seve Ballesteros as a Spanish winner of the season-long title.

Chacarra finished on 21 under par at Delhi Golf Club, ahead of New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier on 19 under. After bad light delayed his third round, Chacarra completed it with a nine-under-par 63 and a five-shot lead; his final-round 70 was enough to hold off Hillier. Patrick Reed, who had led the standings since March, tied for 23rd on eight under, while Rory McIlroy tied for 42nd on four under.
