Mbeumo offers Carrick solace as Man Utd winless run goes on
Bryan Mbeumo scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Leeds at Elland Road, extending their winless run to six matches. The result offered Michael Carrick some encouragement, but United have won only two of their first 10 games in all competitions and remain under pressure to improve.
Mbeumo has scored four times in seven league games, while no other player in Carrick’s squad has more than one league goal apart from Bruno Fernandes. United were 13th in the Premier League after the match, with further changes at left-back and injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw adding to Carrick’s selection difficulties. Carrick said the side needed stability and believed they could put together a good run.
- Mbeumo scored as United drew 1-1 at Leeds.
- United have gone six matches without a win.
- Carrick says his side can still build a good run.
Both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The draw and Mbeumo’s scoring form offer grounds for cautious optimism: United showed some attacking threat, and Carrick has had to manage injuries and changes at left-back. He may need time and a more settled side to build the consistency required for a stronger run.
The case against
Six matches without a win and only two victories in the first 10 games point to problems that go beyond selection difficulties. United’s low league position and reliance on a small number of scorers make it reasonable to question whether Carrick’s approach is producing enough improvement quickly enough.
