The 80s Novelty Song That Celebrated a Defunct (But Still Popular) Comedy Trio
Jump ’n The Saddle’s “The Curly Shuffle” turned a tribute to The Three Stooges into an unlikely hit, reaching the US Top 20 in 1984. Its success reflected the trio’s renewed popularity among younger viewers, who could regularly watch their comedy shorts on television.
Chicago singer Peter Quinn wrote the song in 1983, celebrating Curly Howard with catchphrases, references to other Stooges and a snippet of the group’s theme music. Local radio shows helped it spread before Atlantic Records took on distribution and the video used old Stooges clips. The band could not repeat its success, lost its record deal and returned to playing locally.

The Three Stooges were an American comedy trio known for short films built around slapstick, including pratfalls and comic fights. The best-known line-up included Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard, whose physical comedy made him a particular favourite with audiences.
Although the trio had stopped making films together by the 1970s, their old shorts continued to be shown on American television. This gave younger viewers a chance to discover them and helped keep the Stooges popular after their original run had ended.
