Hot Chip Announce New Album ‘A Long Way From Kansas’
Hot Chip have announced their new album, *A Long Way From Kansas*, due for release on 8 January. Singer Alexis Taylor says the record was made against a harsh and discordant backdrop, with distortion becoming a guiding idea for its sound.
The new single, “Random Violence”, honours the band’s friend Keith McIvor, the Glasgow DJ known as Optimo, who died last year after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Joe Goddard says McIvor inspired the lyrics, which recall his music, politics and time at Glasgow’s Sub Club; the video features the Boss Morris dance side and references Optimo’s Halloween parties. The 11-track album also includes guest appearances from Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon.
